I began my career in journalism at a local newspaper in New Brunswick while attending Rutgers, "The State University of New Jersey." (Remember when that went on all the branding?) Since those early days of manning the fax, producing layouts in Quark, and taping up ads on a light table, I've written for a bunch of places, and I've led teams large and small in producing award-winning publications.
At 24, I covered Manhattan residential trends for New York magazine while managing editor for real estate publishing firm Yale Robbins. I then served as managing editor of magazines for the global professional society ACM before becoming VP, Content/Managing Editor of the ambitious “science is culture” magazine Seed and Seed Media Group.
I was executive editor of the iconic Ellie-award-winning design magazine Print, and later editor-in-chief of New Jersey Family and its sister publications NJ Baby and Raising Teens. I was then digital and social media manager for The Child Center of NY, where I built the citywide organization's digital comms framework; established standards and policies; led digital campaigns and initiatives across six divisions; created and posted graphics and captions daily; and built the analytics/reporting system that measured it all. I also wrote articles and speeches, and I edited things no one remembers me editing.
Most recently, I was the editor-in-chief of Dining Out Jersey, which is a very fancy way of saying that you get to look at 124 pages and go, Okay, so what can these be? And then you and your art director get to make them be that, really fast.
These days, I'm writing and pitching articles and a growing collection of "Judy Bug" memoir essays, rooted in '80s Catholic school culture. In Central Jersey specifically. I was born here—New Brunswick, naturally—and continue to live here with my family and two truly dumb pets. (The dog means well. The cat not so much.)
